Anyone else think the Juniper/Sycamore ruling to be the dumbest and most arbitrary ruling in the history of the game? Why not just give Sycamore a different effect?
Jack Stensrud
Yeah, pretty much. I was rooting for a PONT remake, myself.

Its not the effect of the card that annoys me. Its the fact that they chose to cover their laziness by forcing you to chose one or the other, despite such a ruling never existing for other cards that were exactly the same. We could play 4 Bill and 4 Mom’s Kindness or 4 Pokeball and 4 Victory Cup if we so desired. So just because Juniper and Sycamore are actually good cards, we now have to chose?

Even if one thinks it’s not a stupid or arbitrary one, it certainly is a transient one. Imagine if this ruling kept up for, say, 10 years, and the developers made all redundant cards printed since the advent of gen 6 mutually exclusive in decks. Pretty soon, we’ll have so many identical cards that TOs will have to keep a list of them.

See, that only further justifies their habit of designing set blocks in a vacuum, which is poor game design. Most blocks are modified legal with their preceding and succeeding blocks as well, sometimes even further backwards or forward than that. It would be better to simply avoid printing redundant cards and instead look at how an individual card may impact the game. If running 8 cards that discard your hand and draw 7 cards is broken, don’t give the opportunity.
