There’s a bird in this artwork. Animals that aren’t Pokemon confirmed.

This is the case with a lot of gen I art, which often depict small animals like birds, fish, crabs, and butterflies. There’s also non-TCG promotional art depicting a dog, even, and references to Indian elephants have persisted in Gastly and Raichu’s dex entries even into Sun and Moon. Plus many instances in the anime.
My stance is that real-life animals were originally intended to co-exist with pokemon early in the franchise, but gradually got abandoned in favor of an all-pokemon world as more species were created. Aside from “environmental” animals like coral and starfish, real-life animals pretty much never show up anymore.
