What I think is funny about Ayumi Odashima is that she is a digital painter (in other words, hand-drawn), but she exclusively works in the domain that is traditionally 3D renders (Items/Pokémon Tools/Stadiums). Stadiums have fully transitioned to being entirely hand-drawn though, while Items/Tools are still usually 3D renders (with some Odashima in the mix)

do you think if my opponent uses accompanying flute to put a basic pokemon on my bench during their turn, i should be able to evolve that pokemon at the start of my turn
the judge at my league says no but I disagree
what is correct?
can i evolve frigibax if it was put into play after my last turn with flute?

General rule of thumb is that if a pokemon was in play at the beginning of your turn, you can evolve it on that turn. This also applies to devolution effects like Devolution Spray. Judge was likely in the wrong in this case.

to quote the exact rules directly from the rulebook if that makes it easier to understand
If you have a card in your hand that says “Evolves from X,” and X is the name of
a Pokémon you had in play at the beginning of your turn, you may play that card
in your hand on top of Pokémon X. This is called “evolving” a Pokémon.
(and also as neapolitan said, there’s an addendum that clarifies that you still can’t evolve if it’s your first turn)
Neapolitan
the rules of evolution are you cannot evolve a pokemon the turn it was put into play. you also cannot evolve a pokemon on your first turn. so if your opponent went first and played flute during their first turn, then during your first turn (going second) you cant evolve it. any other turn accompanying flute is played you would be allowed to evolve it next turn since it wasnt put into play during your turn.
