Love this character design. afaik Taira Akitsu designed them, since there’s no Adventurer trainer class in the main series.

To answer my own question, Ultra Beast Kartenvoy and Welder appear to be unique characters for the TCG and were printed in Generation 7 (Underground Expedition and Apricorn maker are also unique, but reprints). I actually went through the eras and found a giant list of such cards, and at least for the English TCG, we’ve got roughly* 27 unique characters before generation 5, 0 in generation 5, and only 4 (+4 new prints of Supporters in this category that debuted in older sets) after generation 5.
* I say roughly because it really depends how you want to count some stuff (reprints, is a character ‘unique’ if the design is a significant deviation from their game appearance, is Impostor Oak unique to the TCG or a video game character?, etc). It’s also a very quick perusal and I might’ve missed something?
