Hey, what happened to the dex info? :(

The Flaaffy, Ampharos, and Octillery cards from Platinum feature the last use of pre-RS “Sugimori watercolor” stock art in evolution boxes/circles – stock art in the new style is being prepared for HGSS for any Pokémon that still don’t have them*, and the TCG HGSS’s evolution boxes will serve as the card debut for (probably) all of those. (Given this, I now wonder if the Pokémon-SP mechanic was something they deliberately went with to minimize the chance of having to use any of the old artwork for a few sets and kind of “flush” people’s memory of that artwork.)
* At this time, it’s only some Generation II Pokémon outstanding. All Generation III-debuting Pokémon got new artwork for RS, and FRLG covered all Generation I Pokémon. Some Generation II Pokémon did get new artwork for FRLG as well, but it was a bit ..scattershot? I think there was an apparent logic to which ones got new art and why, but I can’t say I remember it.

Scratch all that! Supreme Victors Yanmega uses the pre-RS Yanma artwork.

A long-time hunch on my part that I never went through the effort of fully checking, but I believe the Gen 2 pokemon that got updated art for FRLG are pokemon available on the Sevii Islands. True of Misdreavus, Sneasel, and Murkrow off the top of my head.

So like, I think it was the Sevii Islands but not all of the Sevii Islands. I have an official strategy guide for DP wherein it’s very blatant who hasn’t gotten new artwork and who hasn’t and there are examples of Pokémon that could be caught on Sevii Island that didn’t get new artwork – Larvitar would be one such monster that immediately comes to mind. I *think* what I figured out back in the day was that if a Generation II Pokémon could be caught on Sevii Islands *only up to a certain island* they got new art. (Larvitar’s not available until the very last island.)
