I find it very interesting how comparatively underachieving Aqua Patch is compared to its elder brother Dark Patch and Cousin Metal Saucer. Like, QuagNag, sure. But QuagNag was never top meta, always did well, but never topped anything major. When you compare that to Dark Patch dominating with Darkrai EX in 2012 and coming into the game again with Roaring Moon ex in the current Standard, and Metal Saucer being the backbone of ADP-Z, arguably one of the most unfair, ridiculous decks in the format’s history, Aqua Patch seems rather underwhelming.
Whimsicast
Not saying Aqua Patch is as good as the other two still, but QuagNag is certainly not this card’s only legacy. Alolan Ninetales GX decks, Lapras GX decks, and the occasional rogue decks like Greninja GX, Glaceon GX, and White Kyurem (SUM-LOT) also made good use of Aqua Patch.
