While the mechanical concept of making things cost more for your opponent appears to have debuted with RO Dark Muk’s Sticky Goo Power, Head Ringer Team Flare Hyper Gear would be the first instance of a card making an attack cost more (at least that I can find). That the mechanic is appearing as an Ability on Ariados is probably inspired by instances of “Sticky” attacks/Abilities in Gen 6 and 7 of the English edition of the TCG – Sticky Shot on STS Gastrodon, Sticky Membrane on FLI Goomy, Sticky Web on UNM Araquanid. (Single Strike Jammer on FST Huntail could be mentioned here, but it’s also not going along with the “Sticky” theme.)

This narrative isn’t quite one-to-one with the original cards. For the “Sticky” Abilities and Attacks, Goomy and Araquanid’s original attack names are ねばねばネット [𝐍𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐛𝐚 𝐍𝐞𝐭] and ねばるねんまく [𝐍𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐮 𝐍𝐞𝐧𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐮], while Gastrodon’s is ねんちゃくは [𝐍𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐮𝐰𝐚]. And just in case anyone is wondering, Ariados’ Ability is originally かげりのいと [𝐊𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐢 𝐧𝐨 𝐈𝐭𝐨], and Huntail’s is originally いちげきジャマー [𝐈𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐤𝐢 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫].”
