It’s said that this Pokémon’s beautiful blue wings are made of ice. Articuno flies over snowy mountains, its long tail fluttering along behind it.

This is the first appearance of non-Galarian (Kantonian?) Articuno in gen 8. Kantonian Zapdos previous appeared in Vivid Voltage and Kantonian Moltres was in Brilliant Stars.
No Name
Straight on the heels of this card, a new Kantonian Articuno was just revealed for Incandescent Arcana! (Silver Tempest in the West)

The idea of calling them “Kantonian” Articuno/Zapdos/Moltres is equal parts annoying and cringe-inducing. Let’s be normal and not call them that 9_9

It’s actually an official term used in the games, and the official guide for USUM has used “Johtonian”, “Hoennian”, etc. while “Kalosian” actually predates regional forms entirely. Plus it’s just useful to distinguish them from the newer variants when talking about them.
That said, it’s a little misleading sometimes. If we ever got a Slugma/Magcargo regional, it’d feel a bit silly calling the originals “Johtonian” when they’ve never been found in Johto :v

Official or not it sounds asinine, right? Horrendous for worldbuilding, too. Just because the first time we as fans/players saw a Tentacool in Kanto doesn’t mean all Tentacool are “kantonian”, they are also native to Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, etc. I haven’t had the time to check how the original JP text handles this kind of thing but it wouldn’t surprise me if this was more second-rate localization nonsense c/o the overhyped Treehouse team.
