Which Bidoof will be the correct one to play in a Brilliant Stars through Twilight Masquerade meta with [Dragapult ex](https://limitlesstcg.com/cards/jp/SV6/81?translate=en)? On the one hand, the 60 HP Carefree Countenance Bidoof we’re already playing to circumnavigate [Sableye](https://pkmncards.com/card/sableye-lost-origin-lor-070/)’s Lost Mine attack is safe to drop into play when your opponent can use Phantom Dive next turn, even if they have the option to shift damage counters with [Radiant Alakazam](https://pkmncards.com/card/radiant-alakazam-silver-tempest-sit-059/)’s Painful Spoons Ability. On the other hand, the 70 HP [Bidoof](https://pkmncards.com/card/bidoof-brilliant-stars-brs-120/) from Brilliant Stars can’t be Knocked Out if your opponent uses [Technical Machine: Devolution](https://pkmncards.com/card/technical-machine-devolution-paradox-rift-par-177/) with only 60 damage on that Bidoof. I suppose the 60 HP one would be better, since it has a lower retreat cost, and since a Dragapult ex player attacking with Devolution has probably spread more than 6 damage counters and is perfectly capable of using Painful Spoons a turn or two later.

Carefree Countenance doesn’t block the placement of damage counters (as damage counter placement is an effect, and not damage in itself), but yes, the lower retreat option is generally always the way to go.
