    Apparently this card, along with Rocket’s Sneak Attack, got reprinted as Supporters in Japan as part of the online-exclusive Pokemon Web expansion — and are thus among the first Supporter cards!

    The *very* first, though, is apparently good ol’ Base Set Bill. While he wouldn’t get Supporterified for us until HGSS, he got a Supporter promo in Japan in September 2001.

      This card is featured in Pokémon TCG GB2, which I’ve found weird for a while because the game is otherwise almost entirely focused on “Base–Rocket”, and despite coming out in 2001 (i.e. after the first 3 Neo sets had come out in Japan), it mostly pretends Neo era doesn’t exist. The apparent rationale, at least for this card, would be this card’s inclusion in Intro Pack, the last “Classic era” product released in Japan.

      Most English resources I’ve found are erroneously listing Neo 1 as the debut of Bill’s Teleporter, which is off by about half a year.

    This artwork has been credited to both Ken Sugimori and Keiji Kinebuchi;

    (c.f. my comment on N4 Heracross for something tangentially related. I think some cards like N1 Shuckle, N1 Girafarig, et al. might be Sugi stock arts + either Kinebuchi or CR CG gangs-generated backgrounds.)

    This artwork is a surprisingly faithful representation of Bill’s in-game teleporter from RBY:
    https://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/2/28/Sea_Cottage_interior_RBY.png

    Interestingly, the JP name of this card uses the term “転送装置”, as does Night Teleporter. This translates more directly to “transfer device”, but given the Japanese Wikipedia entry for the term, that is indeed the common Japanese term for teleporters:
    https://ja.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E8%BB%A2%E9%80%81%E8%A3%85%E7%BD%AE

    The real revelation for me here is just the phrase “transfer device” making me realize the reason why Bill even has a teleporter in the first place: it’s part of the PC storage system’s development!
    ….I’m not sure why it took me this long to make that connection. It’s possible he even says it in-game and I forgot :v
