Looking back, this was a weirdly random card to print. There’s no white kyurem ex to accompany it, and both black and white kyurem hadnt been printed since SM. Looks tuff though.

Definitely some weirdly specific anti-dragon tech, you’d think they’d go to a fairy-type for that sort of thing… I agree wholeheartedly about the tuffness on display here, no doubt. Kawayoo is my favorite artist!

Later on they’d print Lillie’s clefairy, but this just felt experimental.

Maybe Lillie’s clefairy came out because of this cause people liked it?

they revealed clefairy in english at worlds that year right? which was before surging sparks had even been revealed itself so i doubt it

That’s sensible, a lot of experimental stuff gets reiterated later on. Copycat lead to rocket’s admin, which lead to N, which lead to Marnie and then Iono.

I think they gave Black Kyurem this “ex” card because White Kyurem got a “GX” card in Gen 7 (whereas Black Kyurem was snubbed).

I was actually talking about this with one of my friends the other day. As it stands, there are currently 12 Black Kyurem cards and 14 White Kyurem cards. The discrepancy started with the XY FCO promo, and then instead of making another Black Kyurem card to complete the pair they doubled down and made three GX cards in the SM era lol. If they want to make the pairs even again, they should probably make a Black Kyurem promo and another ‘ex’ card. Or not, but I think it’d be more visually appealing that way, haha.

Don’t forget the 24 cards just labeled “Kyurem”
