{R} → Roaring Flames : 20+
Discard all {R} Energy cards attached to Blaine’s Charizard. If all Energy cards attached to Blaine’s Charizard provide 2 {R} Energy, discard all of them. This attack does 20 damage plus 20 more damage for each {R} Energy discarded in this way.
{R}{R} → Flame Jet
Flip a coin. If heads, choose 1 of your opponent’s Pokémon. This attack does 40 damage to that Pokémon. Don’t apply Weakness and Resistance for this attack. (Any other effects that would happen after applying Weakness and Resistance still happen.)

Whooooo boy. Where to even BEGIN with this card?
-Confusing wording
-References (whether intentional or not) to mechanics that do not exist, or did not exist at the time (double colored energy)
-an attack that makes you discard fighting type energy (ON A FIRE TYPE POKEMON) that doesn’t even benefit from discarding that energy.
-Discounting the obvious misprint, you have to attach six fire energies to this thing (ALL OF WHICH will be discarded) for it to ever beat base set charizard’s attack
-The second attack requires a coin toss for its effect to go off. Why? It’s a stage 2 evolution of a pokemon line that will almost certainly NEVER be printed again (and thus NEVER receive any additional support) why did they think this was necessary?
For holographic rare, this is absolutely disappointing.
WilliamH.
Absolutely pathetic. Just reading this card filled me with such shock. Why would anyone run this card??
Mantidactyle
With Blaine it can do 60 for 2, and with a Plus Power this means a OHKO on the big basics.
It’s not wonderful but it’s not that bad either
MarxForever
There actually was a double colored energy back then.
feyblade
W…woops. You got me there.
MarxForever
Honest mistake, I don’t think anybody remembered him back then either. Lol.
Poor electrode.
Blob Takeshi
Isn’t the discard limit 2 Fire Energies, so you can only add +40 Damage? That or you discard all of them, but it only counts two of them to the attack.
Ambassador
On top of the above (though, unlike what Blob suggested, no, there was no discard limit), the effect of the card was mistranslated – additional damage can only be applied for {R} Energy discarded *after* the first one used to pay for the attack. The way the text is written means the English print of the card can always do 20 more damage than it was meant to. This actually ended up causing a problem at the 2001 Tropical Mega Battle, an event that then CEO of Wizards Peter Adkison was actually in attendance for.

Discard fighting energy? Well if I have too…
Curtis
Its a shame I used to use my copy of this so much, unsleeved at that. I have the non-misprint, which is apparently worth more.
Also, this guy’s all about the second attack anyway. 40 is always nice.

In unlimited:
-Blaine’s Charmander (Kindle)
-Rare Candy
-This
-Burning Energy
-Fire Cube 01
-Shrine of Memories Stadium
Discard energy from both pokemon and do 10 dmg each turn while getting burning energy back. If the opp doesn’t attach energy, burn it w/ Fire Cube. :) Would be great in a deck w/ Houndoom EX, crushing hammer, Team Rocket’s Handiwork, etc
tl;dr use Shrine of Memories to make this a 100hp Scumbag Charmander

I know this reply is super late to the party but… this wouldn’t have worked in unlimited. there are way too many decks that are turn 1 win. The first deck that gets to play supporters/attack wins. A lot of these decks would only rely on either a single attachment or energy acceleration, so discarding energies wouldn’t be a problem.
