As you can really see on this card, that ‘bar’ on the top right of the Energy card template for the e-Card block – which carried into all of the Gen 3 and Gen 4 blocks – left enough room to be able to handle a Special Energy that provided 4 Energy, in the event they ever wanted to print such an Energy card. As we know, no such Energy was ever printed during those blocks, so it’s probably a stylistic choice – though it does make me wonder if they experimented with some sort of Quadruple Colorless Energy or otherwise.

The HGSS era template for Special Energy expands this bar even further, and could’ve accommodated a Special Energy card that provided 5 Energy, but I wouldn’t expect they ever experimented with something providing *that many* Energy. Here, it’s almost *definitely* stylistic.
