So…it can actually detonate itself twice? It must be on the verge of death/fainting after blowing itself up the first time! Brock must be REALLY abusive to his pokemon…

Yup! You could attach a Metal energy and Detonate 3 times, or 2 and detonate 7 times.

Metal Energy reduced the damage by 10, right? So … you’d need 2 attached to Detonate 3 times. Or am I missing something?

From what I remember, it would reduce the damage that it does by 10, and then shield you from 10. From the Ness’s Nest Deck Garage article on Shapeshift (Brock’s Ninetales), “damage done to yourself by your own attack [with a metal energy attached] is reduced by 10.. yes, read the card. Damage done by this Pokémon and (if it isn’t metal) damage done to is reduced by 10. The 30 Arcanine does to itself would be reduced to 10 to itself with one metal attached. This works for Rocket’s Zapdos and Chansey too.”
