Warnock 2022
Debut of the attack “Taunt“!!
Still goin’ strong as of 2022. Most recently appeared on EVS Sharpedo.

Later appearances of Taunt are actually a different attack. This Taunt [からかう 𝐤𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐮] only ever appeared on one other card – TR Grimer – and the Taunt you’re probably thinking of, [ちょうはつ 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐬𝐮] has two different versions;
· the first version of 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐬𝐮 was on N4 Dark Ursaring
· the second version of 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐬𝐮 debuted in BW
Hard to notice because this version of “Taunt” functions identically to the BW-and-on version of Taunt, but 𝐤𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐮 is not the same ‘Taunt’ as in the video games. (This is, among a few other things, something that makes me wonder if the reset on some attack names in BW was a coordinated effort between PCL and TPCI to fix some growing disparities in localization of attack names due to weird things like this – an EN attack name being used in the TCG before it became an attack name in the games, and subsequent problems ensuing.)

Thank you! Looks like the video game “Taunt” debuted in Gen 3, which explains why Grimer was the last ‘mon to use it.

(the last ‘mon to use the old version [からかう 𝐤𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐮], that is)

Like the other Brock’s Mankey, this one is relevant in Prop 15/3. Unlike the other Brock’s Mankey, it tends to shine in disruptive decks rather than aggressive ones. You can use Taunt to drag something with high retreat into the active, then trap it there with Energy Removal, Super Energy Removal and The Rocket’s Training Gym. Jason Klaczynski originally used this package in his Brock’s GolbatGengar FO spread deck, which is powerful but mid due to consistency issues. He later tried it in “Scavenge Control” ”Scavenge Lock” and ”Kindle Lock”,” Psychic- and Fire-type control decks that relied on a variety of other basic Pokémon (including Slowpoke FO, Blaine’s Charmander G1 and Moltres FO) to increase your disruptive potential and Muk FO to shut down Dodrio JU (Now considered a staple in most Prop 15/3 decks). Jason ultimately piloted Scavenge Lock to second place in The Prop 15/3 Mega Battle, a 25 player online tournament held on TCGONE to celebrate the format’s addition to the site.
Brock’s Mankey’s story isn’t over yet, as Whiskeyworship, the author of retrotcgs.com and its Prop 15/3 resources, is testing a more aggressive variant of Scavenge Lock that can take prizes with <a href=“https://pkmncards.com/card/scyther-jungle-ju-10/”>Scyther JU (Chansey BS was already in Jason’s list for breaking through one threat, but it could only take one prize card on its own).
Those lock decks are probably the most competitive lists on Jason’s Prop 15/3 page, by the way. As of March 13, 2025, I would recommend retrotcgs.com as the best source of viable Prop 15/3 lists and updated versions of Jason’s archetypes.
