This Pokémon is great in Prop 15/3! It’s capable of OHKOing a lot of the format’s best Pokémon (Wigglytuff, Clefable, Electabuzz, even Kangaskhan and Lickitung with the help of PlusPower) and provides valuable redundancy for decks that run Fighting Energy. In a format where you often have to draw into attackers naturally, decks sometimes run ten or more in combination of Electabuzz, Rocket’s Zapdos, Hitmonchan and Brock’s Mankey. Even if you’re not a “stage 1/haymaker” deck, though, you can still benefit from running Lightning or Fighting types as a second type, such as how Charizard pairs Magmar with Hitmonchan and Brock’s Mankey.

Brock’s Mankey may be useful ALONGSIDE https://pkmncards.com/card/hitmonchan-base-set-bs-7/ in Prop 15/3, but it is just as valuable as the MAIN Fighting type attacker of a deck. You see, Hitmonchan has a retreat cost of 2 and depends heavily on making it dependent on https://pkmncards.com/card/dodrio-jungle-ju-34/ , both because its targets will often retreat after being Jabbed (Meaning you have to wait for a https://pkmncards.com/card/gust-of-wind-base-set-bs-93/ or for the wounded Pokémon to come back out of hiding), and because many Pokémon, including https://pkmncards.com/card/rockets-zapdos-gym-challenge-g2-15/ , https://pkmncards.com/card/scyther-jungle-ju-10/ and opposing Dodrio, resist Fighting type attacks. Brock’s Mankey, however, often Knocks Out targets in a single hit, and its free retreat means it doesn’t rely on Dodrio to pivot out when it gets countered, so it fits into a wider variety of decks.

It’s worth noting that Brock’s Mankey is vulnerable to being Gusted up, requires two Energy to attack instead of one, and quickly becomes useless if it takes even minor damage, but in all fairness, Hitmonchan has to worry about https://pkmncards.com/card/wigglytuff-jungle-ju-16/ Knocking it Out in a single hit with https://pkmncards.com/card/pluspower-base-set-bs-84/ .

You can see a variety of Prop 15/3 decks utilizing Brock’s Mankey on this blog written by my friend whiskey worship, particularly in this article (https://retrotcgs.com/2025/03/07/active-paper-decks/ ). My favorite has got to be the https://pkmncards.com/card/clefable-jungle-ju-1/ https://pkmncards.com/card/sabrinas-kadabra-gym-challenge-g2-58/ https://pkmncards.com/card/dark-golbat-team-rocket-ro-7/ deck, a rogue deck I built back in May and have been refining ever since with whiskey’s help. Expect a dedicated comment about that deck under Dark Golbat in the future.
