The pollen it releases contains poison. If this Pokémon is raised on clean water, the poison’s toxicity is increased.

Prismatic Evolutions is up!

I really hate seeing item lock coming back again, not in a game without the kind of interaction you find in other games like counterspells.

I mean, we DID have Pokémon Ranger back in Steam Siege. Maybe those sorts of effects need to appear more.
Divinity
We had Channeler in Unified Minds too which is more recent. It’s not out of the question for them to print another card like this.

oooo, i’d love to see that kind of thing become relevant with the return of budew! it would also allow a little more breathing room for other kinds of disruption, if they can be removed easily enough.

Budew definitely takes the #1
spot for: longest-time-missing-from-the-TCG in ratio to biggest-effect-on-the-metagame-when-she-finally-returns
Whirlpool
(in contrast: Elekid, Smoochum, Bonsly, etc made virtually no difference when they finally returned in the Gen 9 TCG)
Sam
Hopefully we get a new Pichu soon

And now we know we will. :D

Honestly, something I’ve really come to learn when it comes to this game is that the playerbase as a whole overreacts about 99% of cards that come out. I think the primary reason for so much overreaction is that most players examine the effect of a card against decks as they’re built before the card coming out, rather than considering how a deck can adapt to better handle a card. We’ve seen a decrease in decks over-relying on item cards to get setup, and a shift towards slower builds of mainstay decks, and Budew is simply a powerful part of the format instead of the end of the TCG as we know it as people were claiming it would be!

Honestly, my main concern about this card was the possibility that it would make being forced to go first instead of second even more unfavorable. Apart from that, I was optimistic. Slowing down the game is cool, giving setup heavy decks more turns to establish their board is cool, not getting your board picked apart by Dusknoir on your opponent’s second turn is cool. Everyone was comparing this card to Seismitoad EX, but as far as I can tell, it’s closer to a more honest Spiritomb AR, a card that slower stage 2 decks could hide behind to set up instead of using Broken Time Space. (Well, except the way Brute Bonnet plays it.)
