Whenever a player plays a Trainer card other than a Stadium card, he or she flips a coin. If heads, that player plays that card normally. If tails, the player can’t play that card. If the card isn’t put into play, the player’s opponent may use that card instead, if he or she does everything required in order to play that card (like discarding cards). Either way, the card goes to its owner’s discard pile.
· Stadium rule: This card stays in play after being played. Discard this card if another Stadium card comes into play.

I’m not sure if I even WANT to know where this gym is located. The art is horrifying. The card itself is horrifyingly power. The effect is horrifying from a flavor perspective. You’re not going to get a more evil gym than this.

It’s located in the Black Lodge from Twin Peaks

so this doesn’t work with tools or cards like plus power? I might still allow them anyway just for fun with friends
Otaku
The first part of the effect works on anything but Stadium cards; the second part, allowing you to use the effect of your opponent’s Trainer, is the part that doesn’t work on cards you put into play. This was to avoid confusion since, to use the effect of an opponent’s Tool like Focus Band, you’d need to attach it to your own Pokémon.
Note that unless you’re intentionally using the old rules, not just the old cards, PlusPower no longer attaches to your Pokémon but provides its bonus to whatever you attack with that turn (if anything). Which means that, UNLIKE back in the day, now it would be fair game for both parts of the effect of Chaos Gym.

This is very accurate.

Of course, PlusPower’s effect only lasts through the turn its played, so if your opponent were to use it, it would really only do anything if they could damage you on your turn. Think Shell Trap or similar.

This is a good discussion; we each keep getting things half-right, but since we keep going, we are also learning. XP
1) I forgot the rest of the wording change to PlusPower, like you said; back when it attached, it was also written so that damage bonus lasted until the end of “Your turn…”, but now it specifies “this turn”.
2) Shell Trap places damage counters with its effect (the effect being what resolves on your own turn). Some older stuff still does damage, though, like Rocket’s Hitmonchan with its “Crosscounter” attack.

Just curious, how come this and a few other Stadiums are not marked “Trainer – Stadium” like the rest?
It would greatly help the Advanced Search and Syntax if they were

I also hope for this to be corrected, eventually. I believe it is simply a matter of different people inputting the cards, especially when the site was new. Well, that mixed with how designations have changed over the years further muddying the water.

These are (hopefully) mostly corrected now. When data entry was initially being done, I didn’t know how I wanted to categorize the older Stadium cards. The classifications changed over the years and I thought maybe I’d give them all separate labels, but at this point I’m just lumping them all together essentially as “Trainer—Stadium.”
G1–SK: Trainer—Stadium Card
RS–PK: Trainer—Stadium
DP–CL: Stadium—Stadium
BLW–on: Trainer—Stadium
