    Hmm. I think today I will pay $500 for POP4 Chimecho ẟ.

    Why is this so expensive? Extremely limited printing of POP4? I don’t think of Chimecho as being that popular of a Pokémon but all the prices for POP4 look relatively high for non-holos.

      I assumed it was either a pricing glitch or a one-off price-fixing sale that got logged in TCGplayer’s system anyways, but if Bulbapedia is correct, “In order for players to obtain a booster pack from [POP4], they were required to challenge and beat the 15-and-over champion, Tsuguyoshi Yamato, from the previous championships.”

      Some of the POP4 cards just don’t seem to be showing up anywhere at all, actually – i.e. not on eBay, TCGplayer, Troll & Toad, or any other sites I can think of – and the only ones that are are the ones that got released as pack-in promos in blister packs and the like. These cards could well have ended up with an overly constrained supply if you had to beat a Worlds champion to win even a single pack(?), and there were probably only so many opportunities to play him to win a pack at all.

      This does seem like something to look into, even though I expect I won’t like the answer.

        Looking into this a bit, this price is basically bull, but you won’t be able to do anything about it since it seems to just have limited availability and someone might’ve cornered the market on its population;
        · First off, while POP4 packs were originally only available by beating Tsugoyoshi Yamato at Worlds 2006 in August – meant as “sneak peek” – it saw a general release through Organized Play starting in September 2006, and continued to be available into March of 2007. An effective lifespan of ~6 months is not egregiously short for POP series;
        POP 1: September 2004 – August 2005 (~11 months)
        POP 2: August 2005 – April 2006 (~8 months)
        POP 3: April 2006 – August 2006 (~4 months!)
        POP 4: September 2006 – March 2007 (~6 months)
        POP 5 through POP 9 were all also available for ~6 months at a time.

        · POP4 Grovyle is another uncommon card in this set that didn’t become available through blisters/etc, and seems to typically sell for around $10 USD.
        · POP4 Pokémon Fan Club is another uncommon card in this set that didn’t become available through blisters/etc, and seems to just not be available, or if it is, also sells for egregiously high prices.
        · POP4 Deoxys 𝒆𝒙 is a rare(!) card in this set and sold for $149 in July of this year, and POP4 Chimecho δ sold for $499 the same month (the day after, in fact).

        There are quibbles here I don’t care for (this is price fixing lol), but for the sake of it, it can be noted that the Chimecho δ was listed as NM when it sold for $499, and Deoxys 𝒆𝒙 was listed as LP when it sold for $149.
