On Dark Haunter, I suggested Neo Destiny started, and the e-Card era would continue, an en masse changeover of the artwork used in the “evolution boxes” for Pokémon evolving from Generation I monsters – i.e., for anyone still using Red & Green artwork, the swap would be made to Blue version. So Clefable here is swapping from using Clefairy’s Red & Green artwork to depict the Pokémon it’s evolving from, to using its …Crystal version artwork?
Yes! For some reason, Clefairy, Horsea, and Mew got new artwork for Crystal version. This Clefable (and its holofoil counterpart) will be the only instance of Clefairy’s Crystal artwork showing up in the TCG most people ever got to see – but it should be noted it also showed up as the artwork used for Sample Set Clefairy.
(As far as that Horsea and Mew artwork, the latter doesn’t seem to have ever been used in the TCG, and the former only ever showed up in the evolution boxes for AQ Seadra and both DR Seadra.)
