{C} → Sing
Flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokémon is now Asleep.
{C}{C}{C} → Metronome
Choose 1 of the Defending Pokémon’s attacks. Metronome copies that attack except for its Energy costs and anything else required in order to use that attack, such as discarding Energy cards. (No matter what type the Defending Pokémon is, Clefairy’s type is still Colorless.)

Its magical and cute appeal has many admirers. It is rare and found only in certain areas.

why would you put 3 energy onto a Pokemon with only 40 HP?? Was it actually feasible to copy Charizard‘s Fire Spin back in the day?

If speaking in terms of what’s “good”, it would rarely face a Charizard at all. Its main opponents would be the Haymaker basics: Electabuzz, Scyther, and Hitmonchan. They’re strong due to their low energy costs, so Clefairy would fall behind — and Hitmonchan can OHKO it with one energy.
The Evolutions print of this card, meanwhile, is very successful in Expanded thanks to the universal energy acceleration and crazy attacks everyone throws around these days :)

Metronome causes more confusion than any other card out there. Look for the Metronome to be reworded in Basic Set 2.” – Pojo’s Unofficial Big Book of Pokemon, ~2000
This… did not seem to happen xD Both prints of the base Clefairy seem to have identical wording. Oh well xD
