Its magical and cute appeal has many admirers. It is rare and found only in certain areas.

The TCG Classic printings of Clefairy and Clefable use the correct translation of Metronome. The original English printings (from Base Set and Jungle, respectively) have an additional clause to ignore “anything else required in order to use that attack, such as discarding Energy cards.” This clause isn’t on the Japanese version of Clefairy/Clefable, and it changes how the attack works.

Here’s a fun interaction in TCG Classic: you can use Metronome to copy Mewtwo‘s Barrier every turn, since the attack’s name is “Metronome” and Barrier does a game state check to see if you used an attack called “Barrier” last turn.

I don’t like how all of the cards in that set have that prohibitive text.

Most of the cards are only relevant in unofficial tournaments, which usually don’t care if people play the TCG Classic cards even if they don’t want people using proxies or World Championship reprint cards. But for standard relevant staples and the exclusive ex’s, it really feels unnecessary (At which point it feels unnecessary for the entire box). I mean, we already have legality stamps to determine if a card should be standard legal or not, and it’s not like having a few tournament legal trainer reprints inside would have made the box hard to find, as there’s already a thriving singles market for this box’s contents
