It’s that, but it’s also the most recent instance of a Computer Search-like card.
Classic: Computer Search: “Discard 2 of the other cards from your hand in order to search your deck for any card and put it into your hand.”
Gym: Rocket’s Secret Experiment – No discards required, but now requires a flip and offers a heavy penalty for flipping tails. If you ‘averaged it out’ you could paraphrase it to “Computer Search could be balanced if it searched for 0.5 cards *and* we made it have a supporter-like effect.”
BW: Computer Search ACE SPEC: Same effect as CS, but it’s an ACE SPEC this time. i.e. CS is still broken-ish so we have to cap it to a single-card-in-your-deck.
SM: Red’s Challenge: Functionally identical to CS, but it’s now a Supporter. ..so there’s a bit of a turn-around there, and we’re slowly approaching a point where CS could one day come back as an item card?
Which is effectively what seems to be happening now. Camping Gear and Cram-o-matic seem to be tinkering with figuring out what form of Computer Search can work as an item card in the current meta, without being broken, and without being useless.
