Some people say that Kadabras are responsible for many of the mysterious events reported in the news.

I could have sworn at one point there was some advertising material or something that insisted that the plural forms of Pokemon names were the same as singular. Yet “Kadabras” is used in the flavor text here.

It seems like this was the card that made Yuri Geller upset. He mentions the cards depicted him as ‘evil’, and someone probably explained this card to him as being named, well, “Evil Yungerer”.

This was my interpretation as well, and the fact a specific Japanese Kadabra card (presumably where he got the “Evil” from) was something he noticed at all probably means either he or his legal team were keeping very close tabs on how Kadabra was being portrayed from the very beginning. Which makes sense, since he was notoriously litigious in general, and pokemon had gotten wrapped up in the insano crazy satanic panic news cycle of the 80s and early 90s.
Glad he finally came around, though!

Hope we get new Kababra cards someday soon. Kadabra’s also been absent from the anime since gen 3, presumably shoved in the same trunk as Porygon and Jynx.
