Who cares about stats when you can just use the incredibly broken control trainer cards in the classic sets to render your opponent’s team useless? Seriously, imagine this actually startign to pull off Fling back in the day. Even if you switch in anticipation of this, he could just gust of wind your pokemon, use energy removal on any pokemon with spare energies, and then fling you.

From a design perspective, I REALLY want to know what a fighting pokemon (with heavily fighting-energy-based attacks) is almost purely a control card. Wouldn’t that make more sense on a psychic type?

I’ve been having fun with this card in TCG 2. Only problem with Fling is that you can’t win with it. For a 4 energy attack on a stage 2 with no possible energy acceleration for fighting at the time, I don’t think it’s too broken to let it be a win condition.
