while this card and its counterpart pluspower had a weird & ancient wotc-like effect of attaching themselves to a pokemon in play without being a tool, pluspower was issued an errata in 2011 with the release of black and white base set to match the text of the new printing to reflect modern era card design (with similar effects to the updated pluspower being reused on new cards in recent years, like electropower and power tablet). defender remained untouched, with the exception of a small fix regarding self-damaging attacks, as it didn’t receive any new printings past this one in HS undaunted. defender is the very last non-tool card ever released to be attachable to pokemon in this way, alongside the last of the old technical machines, which ended in rising rivals
