This card really confuses me. What does this effect have to do with what a Doctor would do in any way? Sure a lot of card effects are a stretch, but they usually have some relationship to who or what the character on the supporter is. Why would a card for a Doctor be based on your opponent having a VMAX active??

This is actually very common in the TCG. There are simply way too many Supporter effects to consider, but not enough characters. Other examples include [Katy](https://pkmncards.com/card/katy-scarlet-violet-svi-237/) or [Arezu](https://pkmncards.com/card/arezu-lost-origin-lor-189/).

I disagree. Katy and Arezu both have aspects about them that can abstractly connect to their card effect. Katy gives you a large hand, but forces you to wait a turn, like a baker has to make you wait before they can give you what they made. Arezu’s effect is very generic, which means it could reasonably apply to anyone, but she’s associated with evolution Pokemon, and since every new Pokemon in Hisui (except for literally Enamorus) is or has an evolved form that can be searched via Arezu, she still feels thematic.
A Doctor has nothing, literally nothing to do with Dynamax Pokemon. An anonymous commenter happened to mention the Doctor who volunteers at the Crown Tundra’s Max Lair, which makes it make sense, but as a card in a vacuum, without the specific context of knowing that there was that highly specific NPC, it’s completely bizarre to have a Doctor give this effect.

Probably because it might be the doctor who volunteers at the Crown Tundra’s Max Lair.

I think there are some Supporter cards that represent their effects well such as Grant (rebounding from discard pile representing rock climbing) and the upcoming Lana’s Aid (fisher whose effect is similar to Super Rod, Ordinary Rod, and Fisherman) but there doesn’t seem to be much of a deliberate logic behind the way they’re designed.
In the first place, Supporter cards don’t represent a mechanic from in-universe Pokémon battles. I kinda assume the TCG has its own in-universe battle logic. To be honest as a genre, TCG mechanics such as your deck, hand, the discard pile, drawing and “casting” are pretty abstract, it’s understandable that the other games justify this by having the player be a magical wizard summoning creatures and casting spells.
