question, if I attached holon’s castform or a double rainbow energy to this pokemon, would I have to discard anything to use dragon wave?

Yes. Both of those count as “every type of energy”. “Every type” includes both [W] and [L]. Fun fact: if you had only those 2 cards attached, you would have to discard both of them, because the effect requires 2 ‘cards’ to be discarded, not just 2 energy.

thanks! I just started a “classic” “cube” (classic being from base set on to power keepers) (and cube being a loose sense of the word, it’s really just a selection of cards for deck building) so a lot of these older cards interact in a strange way or in ways I’m unfamiliar with, so these answers are super helpful!

This is the first time Dragon Wave has appeared on an attack on a Pokémon, but the attack technically made its debut as Lance’s TM01 in Pokémon VS, albeit the attack cost is a bit different (the [R][W] cost of Lance’s TM01 would match Salamence better, but Salamence has yet to get the attack). It shows up again one on SUM Dragonite (with a third, different Energy cost).
