In this set, the Dratini evolution line switched from being {G}/{L} type in the TCG to {W}/{L} type.
Twylis
Glad they did so. The Dragonite line is literally aquatic, so Water energy just made sense — hence why it was using it even way back in the e-Series. Not sure why Gen 5 changed it.

I’ve heard people say it’s based on the color of Dragonite – that its body is yellow, hence [L], but its wings are blue or green, depending on who’s doing the artwork, hence the flipflopping from [W] to [G] back to [W]. The ‘supporting evidence’ that people usually point to is Salamence, whose red and blue body matches its [R] and [W] attack costs, but I’ve never been convinced – it gets Ember as a level up move, and has access to Hydro Pump as an egg move. Look at other Dragon types and you’ll find some example where if here and there appears to be based on the color of the Pokémon, but not with enough consistency that it’s like this for all Dragon types.
So, yeah, like Twylis, I like that they reverted Dragonite to [L][W] because it better matches the ‘flavor’ of the Dragonite line.
