It digs into the ground with its tail and makes a mazelike nest. It can fly just a little.

I always thought it was odd that Dunsparce’s “teeth” are on it’s chin.

On LM Dunsparce, I left a comment about how it had two attacks that cost the same amount of Energy, but neither do damage, possibly making it ambiguous which attack “should” go first – and as my friend Costanzas98 found out, that appears to be unique among Pokémon across the ADV/PCG era. (If you find out Costanzas98 overlooked something, please let me know!)
The DP era very quickly builds on the precedent that Dunsparce created. Though cards like Wurmple, Chatot, and Spheal show that those rules are still in place, cards like Bidoof, DP Staravia, and appropriately enough this Dunsparce, all show that the card designers were comfortable with their rules to the point they could regularly create these sorts of ‘edge case’ cards.
From memory, as far as another Pokémon fan was able to figure out, these rules continued to be maintained across Generations 4 and 5, but seem to have started to be broken in the middle of Generation 6, and then there are frequent ‘offenders’ across Generation 7 – such as the Spinarak and its comments that ended up setting off this entire investigation.
Of course, none of this affects gameplay, but it’s an interesting investigation that may be of interest to anyone who ever needs help spotting fakes, wants to design their own cards for fun, or maybe even ends up becoming an official card designer – don’t make the same mistake that whoever designed XY Linoone did! (As of mid-2026, the ADV/PCG rules for determining attack order seem to be in place again. It’s curious to consider what might’ve caused the change.)
I had a lot of fun looking into this and hope everyone else who looked into it had fun too.
