Poké-POWER ⇢ Ectoplasm
If Dusknoir is your Active Pokémon and would be Knocked Out by damage from your opponent’s attack, you may discard all cards attached to Dusknoir LV.X and put Dusknoir LV.X as a Stadium card into play instead of discarding it. This counts as Dusknoir being Knocked Out and your opponent takes a Prize card. As long as you have Dusknoir LV.X as a Stadium card in play, put 1 damage counter on each of your opponent’s Pokémon between turns. If another Stadium card comes into play or Dusknoir LV.X is discarded by the effects of any attacks, Poké-Powers, Poké-Bodies, Trainer, or Supporter cards, return Dusknoir LV.X to your hand.
· Level-Up rule: Put this card onto your Active Dusknoir. Dusknoir LV.X can use any attack, Poké-Power, or Poké-Body from its previous level.

What a wall of text. This really could be simplified down to something much simpler. “If Dusknoir Lv.X is your active pokemon and would be Knocked Out by your opponent’s attack,you may put it into play as a stadium card. This counts as Dusknoir Lv. X being knocked out. As long as Dusknoir Lv. X is in play as a stadium, put 1 damage counter on each of your opponent’s Pokemon between turns. If an effect causes Dusknoir Lv.x to be discarded, return it to your hand.”
I guess the developers felt compelled to put in redundant clarification text just to prevent kids from falling into unnecessary arguments.

At least the D&P series was very creative with card designs like this. I’d rather this “wall of text” than things like “FFF – Something attack – 90 damage, that’s it, nothing to see here”.

As in discarded from the field, or discarded from your hand? A million lines of text and they still couldn’t make it clear.

It has to be discarded while it’s a stadium.
This block you quoted comes after the “As long as you have Dusknoir LV.X as a Stadium card in play” and it refers to its behavior as a stadium.
It’s only ambiguos if you consider that each clause in the Poké-Power is a different effect. But that’s not the case, Poké-Powers have to be activated and follow all clauses. Since there was no knock out, it can’t be activated in the first place so, nothing after that would apply.

Oh I see, yeah that makes. Yes, you’re completely right, I was thinking of the card as if it had multiple discrete Poke-Power. (If it’s knocked out from the field it becomes like a stadium.) (If it’s ever discarded return it to you hand.) Though even after having it explained I still hold that it warrants a virtual errata.

I’m convinced that the DP/Platinum era was the most creative in the TCG, and you can’t convince me otherwise. Using a Lv.X Pokemon card as a Stadium?? What a crazy and fun idea!!

Nowadays an ability like this would almost certainly be worded like this:
“If this Active Pokémon is Knocked Out by your opponent’s attack, you may use this ability. Put this card into play as a Stadium card (discard any Stadium that is already in play).
As long as this card is in play as a Stadium card, it has the following effect: ‘During Pokémon Checkup put 1 damage counter on each of your Opponent’s Pokémon. If this card leaves play, return it to your hand’.”
Just two short paragraphs, what back then apparently took the equivalent of the opening chapter of War and Peace to explain.

This is a great example of game harmonization – with a few exceptions, the rephrased wording you’ve suggested almost reads like a translation of the original text¹ – and why it’s a good thing. Gen 3 and Gen 4, despite not being managed by WOTC, holds on to a lot of what I suppose you could call “legacy bloat” insofar as the intrusive clarifying text, “reminder text”, et al. which often causes cards to read as more confusing than they should be, particularly during DP & DPt, when they wanted more Powers/Bodies/Attacks to have interesting effects.

1. Folks are leaving out the “Knocked Out by damage from your opponent’s attack” in their re-wordings, which is important! (e.g. If an attack places counters to KO Dusknoir LV.X, the Power doesn’t work.)
2. It’s interesting that the original text doesn’t reference “effects of any attacks, Poké-Powers, Poké-Bodies, Trainer, or Supporter cards” that the English text makes explicit; looks like it only says when the Stadium Dusknoir is discarded, put it back in your hand. This means that for a strict reading of the English text, in Unlimited if you used an Ability to discard Stadium Dusknoir (e.g. Marshadow UNB) you wouldn’t get the Dusknoir back. But by the original text, you should!
