While it’s often blamed for power outages, the truth is the cause of outages is more often an error on the part of the electric company.

I’ve gotten into a lot of really boring conversations about how literally you’re supposed to take Pokédex entries, and my answer has always been “it really depends.” I don’t think the games have ever put a ton of thought into “Who is actually writing these entries? Where do they get the information from?” and sometimes it strikes me the author of a given entry is an in-universe biologist documenting their own observations regarding a species, sometimes it’s someone recollecting some folklore, and sometimes it seems a biased entity might be taking advantage of the Pokédex as a platform to spin information in their own interest – think when a corporate entity turns out to be paying entity to make sure their Wikipedia page remains a positive puff piece.

And I think Electabuzz’s entries over the years is a great example of this. What probably started as a coincidence (a power plant had a shutdown and an Electabuzz was nearby) turned into a rumor (“I wonder if the Electabuzz caused the blackout?” never you mind the fact Electabuzz can probably be found near power plants working fine) got cemented as fact when it became a part of Electabuzz’s Pokédex entries starting in Generation I. Whether the author heard the rumor come from an innocent third-party that didn’t know any better, or perhaps a power company PR person knew the author was writing for the Pokédex and passed this “information” along, or something else, it’s nice that after years of being a scapegoat for shoddy operating procedures and OSHA violations (see: AQ Power Plant) Electabuzz’s Ultra Moon entry cleared Electabuzz of any major fault.

Sounds like Electabuzz hired a PR firm 👩🏾‍💼 👨🏻‍💼
