The instant it presses the tips of its tails onto an opponent, it sends over 20,000 volts of electricity into the foe.

I’m finding that when combined with Dusknoir and a deck that exploits double colourless energy it really puts pressure on the opposing player to get their plays right. It also helps that Empoleon is weak to it.

There have been 4 cards with an attack called “shockwave” or a variation of the word, the others being Yanma (Neo Discovery N2 17), Tyranitar ex (Dragon Frontiers DF 99), and Electabuzz (Diamond & Pearl DP 81). Notably, they all do wildly different things. I do find it interesting how some moves remain the same after 20+ years, like Whirlpool and Hyper (or Destructor) Beam. While others have changed once, like Water Gun going from energy quantity based damage to just a fixed amount. Shock Wave technically only changed once, from Electabuzz DP to this card, but the variations in spelling make it a little more interesting.

I wonder if in Japanese those are the same attacks, or if they’ve got different names…

Four cards and three different names.

Shockwave… Electrical Shock Wave… God of Thunder?? Why couldn’t we get a name as cool as that on our Tyranitar ex?

At least we didn’t get stuck with something like “Shockblast”. That’s what happened for a few years to toys that would have been named Shockwave. All the way back in Generation 1 (Transformers, not Pokémon), there was an iconic character named Shockwave, but Hasbro didn’t keep their trademark rights so in the early 2000s… he was Shockwave in Japan but Shockblast here. XD
Electriwave might have been preferable. ;)
