Strip mine was a format defining card in MTG, but it took up your land drop. This card, however, pushes that envelope to insane extents by being uncounterable and NOT taking up your energy drop. A common unlimited stable…..yeah, base set 1’s trainers are just that insane
Hah! This card (and it’s super variant) were so freaking broken that PCL eventually printed a card that specifically countered them. And people kept playing them anyway.
It’s notable how this and Super Energy Removal are pretty much the only classic OP Base Set trainers to not have gotten reprinted as supporters down the line. Professor Oak got Juniper, Sycamore, and Professor’s Research; Computer Search got Red’s Challenge; and Gust of Wind got Lysandre and Boss’s Orders. Meanwhile, Energy Removal has only gotten nerfed versions: Team Flare Grunt only discards from the active, Team Yell Grunt only puts energy back to your opponent’s hand, and Plumeria requires discarding two other cards to play.
Though now that I think about it I don’t think Item Finder has gotten a Supporter equivalent at all, nerfed or otherwise.

I don’t think the other cards ever necessitated a hard counter like the Removal cards necessitated No Removal Gym
