    This was originally a counter to Energy Removal and Super Energy Removal.

      Maybe?

      Energy Retrieval was the first way you could recycle basic Energy cards from your discard pile. So yeah, it could get back Energy that had been discarded by S/ER, but you would still have to reattach that Energy and most decks only had one manual Energy attachment per turn. It was just as important, probably more important, for letting decks get by with lower Energy counts, making it easier to run multi-Type decks, taking the sting out of having to discard Energy from your hand, etc.

      However, I was neither a skilled nor a well-informed player at that time. If I’ve misunderstood how things worked out, you’ll have to let me know.
