Was there ever an official ruling for if this turned Gym Heroes Erika into a supporter as well? I doubt anybody tried playing the original in any official tournaments to find out for certain. Precedent with Bill implies it constitutes an errata to the original, but with the precedent with Computer Search it could be argued that this constitutes a significant text change and Cosmic Eclipse Erika and Gym Heroes Erika are thus two different cards.
To muddle the situation further, the Gym Heroes version is now technically the most recent printing thanks to a limited deck distributed to TCG artists, arguably overwriting this Erika with the original again regardless (https://www.pokebeach.com/2021/12/pokemon-tcg-sends-its-illustrators-very-special-25th-anniversary-cards-including-beta-chansey)

No. The old card called Erika would have to receive an errata in the official document here: https://assets.pokemon.com/assets/cms2/pdf/trading-card-game/tcg_errata.pdf
^This contains every errata issued by the Pokemon Company for cards that have been reprinted that can still be used in officially sanctioned events. If a card outside of its respective format isn’t on here, it has not been errata’d and can’t be used in any official events.

Additionally, any card printed that doesn’t have a corresponding regulation mark or set symbol for any given format cannot be used in said format, so those cards in that exclusive set are just as legal as any card from the Celebrations Classic Collection outside of their respective format, which means they aren’t legal for modern competitive play. Even that new stadium in that set that doubles the HP and damage on Pokemon printed before 2000 isn’t legal because it doesn’t have a regulation mark in the bottom left corner.

Huh, looks like Bill isn’t there either. I guess the HGSS Bill actually didn’t impact Base Set Bill in the first place? I remember everyone making a huge deal about that, was it an incorrect assumption that just became commonly accepted as true?

Per the official tournament rules handbook https://assets.pokemon.com//assets/cms2/pdf/play-pokemon/rules/play-pokemon-tournament-rules-handbook-09302021-en.pdf, section 5.4.2.2 (page 33): “As there is no restriction on the number of expansions legal for play in the Unlimited format, players will occasionally come across Trainer cards from older expansions that have the same name as newer cards but completely different effects. Players may still include those older versions of the card in their decks, provided that the wording of the most recent version is used wherever that card is concerned.”

Makes sense. And I assume the artist-exclusive Celebrations print of Erika doesn’t impact it since it wasn’t printed as a legal card in the first place, and would need to be played as Cosmic Eclipse Erika in Unlimited too? Because it retains its original set symbol and thus counts as a Gym Heroes card which Cosmic Eclipse supersedes?

The artist-exclusive deck you’ve mentioned contains cards that don’t have standard card backs at all (there’s a different mini info-sheet printed on the back of each one); it’s intended as a commemorative product and, as you mentioned, nothing in it is legal. I’d presume this means that it being printed did not affect card legality in Japan in any way. It’s a really neat product though–I hope I get to see one in-person someday!

(Of course, the above applies to Unlimited only, e.g. you could use a copy of Gym Heroes Erika in Unlimited but you’d have to play it as the Cosmic Eclipse print. As mentioned elsewhere on this thread, you wouldn’t be able to, say, use a copy of Gym Heroes Erika in an Expanded event at all.)

The ‘artist-exclusive’ cards in question shouldn’t really be thought of as “Pokémon cards” in terms of their legality, impacting the legality of other cards, etc. in virtually the same way that the old Topps cards from the 90s were never thought of as “Pokémon cards.”

So now with this card and Bill being supporters, are donk decks now dead in Unlimited? I don’t know any other item cards that allow you to draw cards without restrictions like Bill or Erika. Will Maintenance (Base set) replace them for draw support?

I imagine they could still function with Misty’s Wrath, and Sabrina’s Gaze and Secret Mission are also decent options in a pinch. Definitely less consistent now though, which is bad for people who like the solitaire-style gameplay of Unlimited but good for people who want it to play like more of a legitimate format. And there’s still Oak, of course, not to mention non-item options like Uxie · Legends Awakened (LA) #43 and Unown · Ancient Origins (AOR) #30.

Oh, and there’s Poké Drawer + · Stormfront (SF) #89 and Acro Bike · Primal Clash (PRC) #122 too! They’re no Erika but they certainly help.

I forgotten about Lysandre’s Trump Card and Porygon Z’s Download ability, they are the main reason for recycling your discard pile. I’ve seen Misty’s Wrath used in the deck too and Professor Oak.
Anyways thanks for listing the other cards! I didn’t know we had that many drawing cards!!
