Erika’s Dratini · 40 HP · {C}
Pokémon (Dratini) › Basic : Evolves into Erika’s Dragonair · is: Erika’s

Pokémon Power ⇢ Strange Barrier
Whenever an attack by a Basic Pokémon (including your own) does 20 or more damage to Erika’s Dratini (after applying Weakness and Resistance), reduce that damage to 10. (Any other effects of attacks still happen.) This power stops working while Erika’s Dratini is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed.

{C}{C} → Tail Strike : 10+
Flip a coin. If heads, this attack does 10 damage plus 20 more damage; if tails, this attack does 10 damage.

    Better than its evolution.

    Something with this Power today would be interesting… we need more cards with funky abilities like this and not the vanilla junk PCL keeps printings.

      If this were something like MTG, you could justify an expert-level expansion in which most pokemon had complex abilities along the lines of this. That being said, this is a game that’s designed to be played by children, as well. If we start loading up pokemon cards with abilities at this level of complexity, you might create a format that is too confusing for young players to even enjoy it.
      I would definitely enjoy seeing a format loaded with cards like this, though!

        I agree there needs to be some balance between approachability and sophistication. But that’s what starter decks are there for, right? The younger age divisions don’t seem to have grown at all the past few years and collectors are going to buy the cards regardless of what they say on them. Of course, I’m sure the PTCGO programmers would have nightmares with cards like this in the mix…

          This particular card isn’t that difficult to program for. I had typed up a demonstration for how I’d do it, but unfortunately Disqus doesn’t support tabs and automatically deletes multiple spaces, so I couldn’t indent properly.

            It seems simple, but I’m sure with all the other code they’re dealing with that scenarios can get complicated.

            EDIT: Also, this is good for saving bits of code: https://gist.github.com/

            Cool! If I ever need to do that again, at lest I know somewhere I can use. It was just psuedocode anyways, as I don’t know what language PTCGO is scripted in.

    There was an alt. art of this card that never got an English translation. https://pcg-search.com/card/1st/1stp039.php || https://archive.ph/2qEqu
