Both of these attacks have had their names changed rather as part of localization;
· Big Eggsplosion, a move which made its debut on Jungle Exeggutor, was originally たまなげMAX [𝐓𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐌𝐀𝐗]; たまなげ can be translated as “Ball Throw” – or, very liberally, as “Barrage”, which is the translation it received for the English video game series.
· Lateral Eggsplosion was originally もらいなげMAX [𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐌𝐀𝐗]; this is a unique phrase I’d make a mess of trying to translate. The essence of what it’s getting at is “to get someone else to do the [ball] throwing (for you) MAX”, which aligns with the attack essentially being Exeggutor getting all the Benched Pokémon to do their own little Big Eggsplosion attacks themselves. I can actually kind of see what they were getting at with ‘lateral’ here.
As far as MAX stuff goes, I left a comment on SS Azumarill that briefly touches on some of the quirks of that all getting lost in localization. As far as Barrage stuff goes, for the most part, the English TCG replaced all instances of Barrage – at least those relating to Exeggutor’s signature attack – with ‘Eggsplosion’, up until UPR Alolan Exeggutor.
