By learning how to fly, Pikachu overcame its weakness to Fighting Pokémon.
Ambassador
Although a number of Pokémon in XY Evolutions / CP6 20th Anniversary saw changes to their Weaknesses and Resistances to better match the typing conventions of the EX·M·BREAK period of the TCG, true to its Pokédex entry, the 20th Anniversary Flying Pikachu bucks those trends and gets to keep its original, idiosyncratic lack of Weakness and retain its Fighting Resistance.
The next time Flying Pikachu makes an appearance in the TCG, it’ll be as Flying Pikachu V and VMAX. It might be because multi-prize Pokémon don’t usually have Pokédex entries (and so the card designers simply forgot), or maybe it was decided it would be too disruptive to the format to have it go without any Weakness at all, but even though Pikachu gets to keep its Fighting Resist, it’s given a rather unusual Lighting Weakness (see PGO Zapdos for an explanation on why this is so unusual – basically, game designers generally seem to want Pokémon to no longer be weak to their own type. However, they do keep making exceptions – e.g. there are once again Lighting Pokémon in SV1 that are weak to Lighting – so it’s not completely crazy to see it on FP V/VMAX).
