It has strong regenerative capabilities. Even if parts of it are bitten off by fish Pokémon, it will return to normal within a few hours.

We’ll finally be getting another Shellos and Gastrodon in Astral Radiance!

Psyche! Looks like the card was cut from ASR and saved for Lost Origin.
It also has the Earthquake attack, albeit beefed up. It does 170 to the opponent and *20 damage* to each of your benched ‘mons.

I really hope they find a better solution for the Gastrodon line at some point. Obviously having them split apart as separate lines in Gen 4 isn’t ideal, but always having both forms glued to each other (which remains the case in Astral Radiance) feels weird given they’re canonically not even supposed to live in the same place. That’s the whole point of their forms!
I suppose you could argue that one or both are non-native and belong to a trainer, but still.

They could very easily just pick one or not the other and be done with it. I think this is actually neater in a lot of ways.

Agreed this way is much better! Gen 4 had some interesting variants but the initial implementation of variant specific cards for the Shellos & especially Burmy lines was overkill, the new way is a lot cleaner especially when the Pokémon count has more than doubled since then.

I agree that the current way to go about it is probably better, especially with Burmy, where we absolutely don’t need 3 different kinds. However, when the 4th gen was newest, having a big emphasis on new forms is totally acceptable, especially since forms weren’t as common prior to that. It was pretty inconsistent though, with Giratina and Shaymin not having distinctly named forms in the card game.
