  It’s on a lot of cards from the Phantom Forces set. It was the theme with the artwork just as Plasma Freeze had a lot of Ice backgrounds.

  Or, maybe the “subtle Candy Crush plug” is an even more subtle Pokemon Shuffle plug. By putting Candy Crush Saga and Pokemon on your mind, why would you not want to play the game that combines them?

  My pet theory is that they are essentially the ‘blood cells’ of reality, or something to that effect. Gengar seems to have opened some sort of dimensional wormhole that functions almost like a blood vein connecting between different worlds. If you accept the blood vein=wormhole thing, then it would make sense that there should be ‘blood cells’ representing particles of reality that travel between the two dimensions during the wormhole process…or something like that.
