Poké-POWER ⇢ Fainting Spell
Once during your opponent’s turn, if Gengar would be Knocked Out by damage from an attack, you may flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokémon is Knocked Out.
{P} → Shadow Room
Put 3 damage counters on 1 of your opponent’s Pokémon. If that Pokémon has any Poké-Powers, put 6 damage counters on that Pokémon instead.
{P}{C} → Poltergeist : 30×
Look at your opponent’s hand. This attack does 30 damage times the number of Trainer, Supporter, and Stadium cards in your opponent’s hand.

Gengar’s Fainting Spell
Plus Vileplume locking you
Made players ragequit

Matchups against VileGar went one of two ways. Either they got set up and you couldn’t do a thing about it, or you swept everything they threw at you before that was possible.
Actually this describes practically every Vileplume deck.

My biggest mistake in Pokemon TCG was playing this instead of Gyarados for Regionals. Sure, there was a lot of LuxChomp, but I think I could have beaten that and I only played 1 LuxChomp all day.
Of course, I also would have done decent if all my heads were tails and all my tails were heads :P

OP. ‘Nuff said.

Wow. Gengars have the best abilities. Did you hear about how the new one from generations has an attack that automatically knocks out any of your opponent’s pokemon that have more than 30 damage on them?

Yup! That Gengar was so cool. It also appeared in BREAKthrough.

I expected a different wording for Poltergeist attack: Look at your opponent’s hand. This attack does 30 damage times the number of Trainer, Supporter, and Stadium cards you find there.

Now we see where the origin for the Gengar tag team card comes from!

Yup. The “Poltergeist” move also previously appeared on delta species Vileplume and FRLG Gengar ex. It’s since become a staple of ghost types in the TCG.
Incidentally–this card gets my vote for best Gengar artwork, ever! Freaking creepy and cool.

Its history can be traced all the way back to gen 1, even.

One of my favorite attacks in the TCG.

It took quite sometime for me to realize the smile under Gengar was a reflection, always thought Gengar was in some kind of twisted-ghost valley (think Dark Sanctuary from Yugioh.)

And I always thought it was a stone arch bridge! I was imagining Gengar was in a Monet-type setting painted by Vincent Van Gogh under Starry Night conditions. I suppose I am still looking at a river, though… right?
