It sails on the winds with its limbs extended to strike from the sky. It aims for the prey’s face.

Gotta say, I think Gligar looked better back when it had the white claws. Lots of pokemon changed colors over time, but I think Gligar stands out for being changed so dramatically so late in the franchise — in the middle of a generation, even.
(specifically, the redesign happened with its new stock art for HGSS)

Only noticing this now. Wow, I hate it.

I suppose they wanted the HGSS sprites to match the GSC sprites (and stuck with it from BW onward). The claws are only white in RSE and DPPt.

I wish they would stick with the GS sprites in better contexts.. when’s Yellow Banana Chiquita Chikorita coming back?

Looking into it further, I think they actually did it to match the anime, which seemingly never had white claws in the first place. Gligar’s gen 2 Sugimori art had white claws, but the anime reference art from the same time period had magenta claws like modern designs. The magenta coloration also seems derived from the anime; game depictions prior to HGSS typically were more purple.

I went around and checked, and I’m not quite sure I follow this line of thinking. Gligar’s never had white claws. They’ve always either been pink or purple, both ingame and in art

I guess ‘claw’ isn’t the right word? The discussion was w/r/t the spike(?) on Gligar’s wing.

I suppose the anatomically correct term would be unguis. We’re specifically not referring to the chelae/pincirs :U
