Definitely not. WotC did far worse when they would stretch and squish artworks to fit their different illustration borders in the Gym and Neo sets (Sabrina’s Gengar and Neo Hoothoot are good examples). Plus this just looks cool imo — always been my favorite Golem art.

Yeah, this feels less like a crop and more just a cool way to frame Golem. Also my favorite Golem art for sure.

Seconding this. One of my favorite genres of Pokemon TCG art involve them being cropped or close to the “camera”. In this case it seems to exemplify Golem’s monolithic bulk and power. My favorite kinds of these is on Dodrio from EX Emerald, where it seems to be so fast it’s impossible to catch within the frame
