Some say that ancient people invented Golurk to serve as a laborer. It follows its master’s orders faithfully.

This card’s Fist of Antiquity attack appears to be the precedent for several cards announced for JP’s S12 Paradigm Trigger – several cards in the set, which will presumably cross the ocean as part of either Silver Tempest, “SWSH12.5”, or possibly scattered into promos – which feature powerful attacks with a caveat that they do nothing if there are any Supporters in the discard. https://archive.ph/vwKAg

The original name of the attack here is いにしえのこぶし, which more or less does resemble the translated name of the attack. The names of the new attacks announced so far are ミステリーボルト and ミステリープレス [where ミステリー is quite literally ‘Mystery’], i.e. entirely different names from this one. It seems like a miss that they’re exploring a very similar idea (ancient Pokémon having attacks with a common effect) and an identical mechanic (no Supporters in discard) as this card, but didn’t keep the いにしえ [Antiquity] thing going.

Huh, “antiquity” fits the fossil-y past theme of the set far better, too. Strange missed opportunity.

My Japanese native-speaker wife says いにしえ sounds a lot cooler than ミステリー, we’ll have to see if it gets translated as ‘Mystery’/’Ancient’/’Antiquity’ or something else entirely. I hope TPCi will do a good job considering their recent fun translations like ‘Creepy-Crawly Congregation’ on Lost Origin Wurmple.

I’d say this mechanic really harkens back to Holon Phantoms Armaldo with it’s Delta Edge attack requiring you to not use a Supporter that turn for extra damage. This would synergize with Sandstorm Armaldo – one of the the first cards to shut down Supporters entirely. We also saw this with Team Up Kabutops, excited to see what other cool fossilized effects Paradigm Trigger will awaken!
