It has recently been found that Grimers are formed in waste-processing plants, and can move into towns via sewers.

This card has an error. The original Japanese text says that the defending Pokémon is poisoned when you use the first attack. And that version is probably one of the best Grimer ever. Perfect with the Dark Muk that came in the same set: it’s even surprising that an useful card like that is only uncommon.

Japanese version: 9/10, English version: 3/10.

J-Wittz also mentioned that the japaneese Grimer was looking up the skirt in the picture. LOL.
Blob Takeshi
Yeah, having POISON GAS make a Pokémon fall asleep makes little sense!

Yeah… so it was either a translation error, or just an attempt at balancing, and then they just forgot to change the name of the attack. After all, a basic Pokémon that could poison with only one energy and without a coin flip was pretty good back then, and I don’t think anything else could do that.
Blob Takeshi
So they changed to to Spore?

I agree with Blob, no sense at all. Paralyze with poison gas, ok, but sleep?

The Oddish in this same set can do it, and Sabrina’s Venonat could do it in the set subsequent. If it was a deliberate change for balance purposes it was very non-thorough.
