I mean, these sorts of cards are only as good as what you can cheat into play with them. Maxie’s Hidden Ball Trick got Archeops NVI banned in Expanded because it could create turn-1 evolution lock, then got banned itself due to creating turn 1 Supporter lock with Kabutops TEU or turn 1 Item Lock with Omastar TEU. Meanwhile, Archie’s Ace in the hole spawned a turbo Blastoise BCR deck that won Worlds 2015 in the Masters Division, but it never got anything banned in expanded, didn’t really see play in the 2016 and 2017 seasons, and has been neglected in expanded for several years due to other combo decks (Like Regidrago VSTAR, Alolan Raichu UNM/Electrode GX, and Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX) just being more aggressive and disruptive.
As for this card, not many people are bothering to play it at the moment. There’s only three lists from Japanese city leagues that have a copy. Anyways, Academy At Night is a MUCH better option for pairing with this card than Ciphermaniac or Mallow, because those cards are Supporter cards. (Oranguru from Sword and Shield and Magcargo from Celestial Storm would also work in Expanded.)

They don’t. V-Unions, Pokemon BREAK, Restored Pokemon, LEGENDs, and any card with the effect “put this Pokemon into play only with the effect of [method]” are incompatible with any method of putting a Pokemon into play other than their designated one.

REALLY? LEGEND’s and V-Union’s I get because you need multiple pieces to form them, but BREAK’s and Restored Pokémon?
https://compendium.pokegym.net/category/5-trainers/maxies-hidden-ball-trick/ All I could find in the compendium is that you CAN put stage Mega Pokémon into play, so I have NO idea why Stage BREAK Pokémon (Which just evolve completely normally) wouldn’t work.
Q: Can I use “Archie’s Ace in the Hole” or “Maxie’s Hidden Ball Trick” to put a Stage 2 or Mega Pokemon directly onto my bench?
A: Yes, they’re very sneaky like that.
As for restored Pokémon, I guess it probably doesn’t matter, since none of the Pokémon people have abused with it have been RESTORED Pokémon, exactly, but… they’ve all been fossil Pokémon line toppers, so it would be ironic if you could put Archeops NVI into play with it, but not Archen NVI.

There’s a Japanese ruling on Marowak BREAK vs Maxie’s Hidden Ball Trick. It doesn’t explain why Maxie can’t put Marowak BREAK into play, but WPM speculates it’s for basically the same reason as Pokemon LEGEND/V-Union: the single card doesn’t contain all the info needed to be a complete Pokemon.
I don’t have an explicit source on hand for Restored Pokemon, but they have virtually identical text to Shedinja VIV 066 and Palafin ex (“Put this card onto your bench only with the effect of [fossil name]” vs “Put this Pokemon into play only with the effect of [Ability]), which do have explicit rulings.
