Yeah, I remember when Scarlet and Violet Base Set had just been released and JustInBasil was trying to create as many decks as possible with the new cards, as he always did (Rest in peace, JustInBasil)… this was his best attempt at a Gyarados ex list. https://www.justinbasil.com/new-decks/sv1#gyaradosex The deck had to jump through all sorts of hoops to fire off a full power Tyrannical Tail. You’d need to attach 3 Energy with https://pkmncards.com/card/origin-forme-palkia-vstar-astral-radiance-asr-040/ ‘s Star Portal VSTAR power, then find a https://pkmncards.com/card/double-turbo-energy-brilliant-stars-brs-151/ , THEN place damage counters on benched Pokémon with https://pkmncards.com/card/hawlucha-scarlet-violet-svi-118/ and either gust up one of those damaged Pokémon with https://pkmncards.com/card/bosss-orders-rebel-clash-rcl-154/ or move the damage counters with https://pkmncards.com/card/radiant-alakazam-silver-tempest-sit-059/ ‘s Painful Spoons. Oh, and by the way, Palkia VSTAR’s Star Portal is a once-per-game effect, so you had to win the game with that one Gyarados.
I’m sure people COULD have built a much better version of the deck three months later, when https://pkmncards.com/card/baxcalibur-scarlet-violet-promos-svp-019/ released, but considering https://pkmncards.com/card/chien-pao-ex-paldea-evolved-pal-061/ was a basic, searched Energy out of the deck, didn’t require two support basics to do relevant damage, and synergized with https://pkmncards.com/card/superior-energy-retrieval-paldea-evolved-pal-277/ to continually recur 240-360 damage attacks… yeah, it’s no surprise Gyarados ex was ignored.
