Good way to take your last prize card, effect of attack kind of sucks though.

I am actually rather tempted to try that out now with Emboar and BTS.

Duran wouldn’t autowin to this because the other Durants and Rotom would run away screaming. Cobalion might have the guts to fight it however.

All-out Blast is way too dramatic. You should only use it to get your last prize card or if you really have to because Gyarados is your last pokemon or your opponent only needs 1 prize card and you have 10 hp left. :P
After this attack, you only have 1 turn left where you grab your last card. The next turn you lose because you can’t draw a card. :P
For a Pokemon Star, it’s way too bad. It has the attack with the most potential damage, but you won’t need the damage anyway and if you don’t win with this attack, you lose almost always.

Not if you have deck recovery, like Night Maintenance (Up to 3 Super Rod), FSL, Palmer’s (Super Rod getting 5 but a Supporter), hell, even Good Rod or Kingdra LA work.

Years later, this card sort-of becomes even better. Unlimited will always be about First Turn Win decks, but ignoring those for a minute, there are mass recycling cards as well as several cards that can shuffle themselves back into your deck. You just have to fear an opponent who can force you to discard that last card… and there are a few easy to TecH cards capable of doing just that!

Are you memeing on us here? Assume you can always set it up on first turn, and from that point on it will always be dealing enough to one shot everything. Even in that best case scenario it still only has 80hp so it’s most likely going to be one shot in return. Then good luck getting it back out of the discard and onto a Magikarp with four 4 other red energies while you’ve zero cards left in your library and they maintain the tempo advantage. Play it if you want to play it. Just don’t pretend it’s strong.

CrimsonRedneck, I’m going to assume you’re NOT trolling me, but just read both the card and my comments too quickly. ;)

            1) Gyarados [Star] is NOT a First Turn Win deck, which means we’re talking about CASUAL play. Y’know, for fun!
            2) I said “sort-of even better”. Because, while it is still bad competitively, less the change in the First Turn Rules, cards released over the last few years have TECHNICALLY made it better (but not competitive).
            3) Gyarados [Star] is a BASIC.
            4) Even if it was a Stage 1, there was a Gyarados (XY – Ancient Origins 21/98) deck that was one of the tops in the STANDARD Format a year or two ago. You’ve got all the support it had plus insane older cards like Broken Time-Space.
            5) It is also a [R] Type, so between support released over the last six years and (again) classic insane options, yeah you should be able to power it up in a single turn. Little trickier to fuel Mew (FCO), who I assumed would be run alongside this card because we’re building a deck around a glass cannon.

Oh lol, I’m blind. Didn’t see the “Basic” part. Yeah in that case it’s much stronger. Even has some game in Unlimited proper(which actually isn’t all FTK combos) since there’s not a lot of other ways get past Wailord walls.

It happens. If you look at other comments on this page, you’ll see I misread “…20 more damage for each Energy card discarded…” as “20 more damage for each card discarded…” so I was glad in this post, I didn’t elaborate on all the combos I had in mind, as some – like running Karen or Archen (PLB) – help. XP

Also, I AM way out of touch with the competitive Unlimited metagame. It is stupid, but I forget I haven’t had the chance to play it in… oh wow, probably 10 years or more. X_X I just read what I can to keep up, but not a lot of places discuss it. Just remembering older donk decks don’t work UNLESS they score the KO without attacking (due to the First Turn Rules) is enough of a challenge. XD

Huh, I forget that the Ban List doesn’t apply to the Unlimited Format. Of course, this loses to the various FTW decks. What is interesting is that there are enough other recycling tricks to make this card a pretty solid beatstick. Karen mass recycles Pokémon, so just make sure you’ve got 10 of those in your deck.

And/or run Archen (PLB), Lileep (PLB), plus Tirtouga (PLB). That’s up to 12 Pokémon (so up to +240 damage) that recycles itself!

Anyway, I done messed up. Can’t pull the tricks I suggested (effectively), though Delcatty-ex, Victini [Prism Star], and Mew (FCO) might work. ^^’
