· After a dig into whether the name “Very Vulnerable” on Hisuian Arcanine LOR TG08 was an accurate translation or not, and whether the JP attack name had a deeper meaning or not, I left off at “we’ll see what future Hisuian Arcanine attack/Ability names do, and if the trend continues.” ししふんじん [𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐣𝐢𝐧] is both a blunt reference to Arcanine and Hisuian Arcanine’s design inspiration – Chinese guard lion statues, “shi-shi” – as well as a historically-rooted expression that refers to an abundance of energy, usually ferocious or furious, said to be “like a lion.” Shishi Funjin is also a concept in kendo, a type of martial arts, which is something that was probably influencing the meaning of the other Hisuian Arcanine (and at least one Hisuian Growlithe) attack, so there’s definitely some recurring history and/or martial arts theme to their attack names that’s getting lost in translation – I don’t really know how you’d come up with a translation that would capture it, though. …I’d suggest having just phonetically spelled out the Japanese attack names?
